In this Soundtoys video course from production expert Thomas Cochran, you’ll learn to think outside the box and produce original and inspiring sounds using the Soundtoys Effect Rack plug-in. From modulation and pitch-shifting effects to lo-fi vintage saturation, textured reverbs, and more, you’ll have a blast applying these ideas and gain some valuable creative thinking skills that can be applied to many situations in your musical endeavors. These Soundtoys videos are designed for new Soundtoys Effect Rack users.
Thomas begins by introducing the Crystallizer effect, showing how to combine pitch shifting and granular processing to create textured chorus and modulation effects. Then, you’ll learn how to stack multiple devices in series to achieve cassette-like saturations and modulations that sound excellent on both individual tracks and group buses.
Next, Thomas shows how to create lush, textured lo-fi reverbs by using the PrimalTap delay effect—perfect to make that one special element stand out in a mix. You’ll also learn how to mimic old-school Motown-style drums by using multiple distortion devices, adding a vintage flair to any track that needs it. Other topics include ambient processing (complex patch with movement) and modulated width and texture (stereo widening and modulation).
This Soundtoys course provides an excellent opportunity to explore innovative approaches to effects, sound design, and other creative musical explorations. This is a skill that’s applicable in many other facets of music production. By the end of this Soundtoys video course, you’ll be ready to start implementing these ideas in your very next recording.
