Monthly feature: Synth Highlights 2020
One thing is for sure: There was no better time for being a fan of synthesizer than today. Every month new models are released in all shapes and colors and in every price range. Whether you are planning your entry into the world of hardware synthesizers or want to expand your existing arsenal of sound generators with the help of a specialist: In the title feature Beat will help you to find the right tool for your individual requirements and desired sound.
In the studio with Alex Niggemann and on the decks with Simina Grigoriu
Blurring the border between house and techno, Alex Niggemann’s fearless mode of production includes an unquenchable thirst for innovation. Danny Turner discusses technique and his quest to create human-sounding rhythms.
Beat also had a talk with Simina Grigoriu: Nirvana is her favorite band and she played the violin when she was a kid. But Simina Grigoriu revels the driving, ecstatic side of electronic club music in her productions and DJ sets. Tobias Fischer interviewed her about political activism, Edith Piaf in techno sets and about how not to overthink while DJing.
Including SuperBooth20 feature
The popular fair for electronic musical instruments and music unfortunately had to be cancelled in 2020 due to the corona crisis. The event organizers of SuperBooth made a virtue of necessity and organized a highly successful virtual fair, giving exhibitors and performers the opportunity to present their latest products and creative live shows as a stream. In the large Sooper special Beat presents the synth highlights of the virtual fair and give you tips in terms of workshops to enter the world of modular synthesizers.
This months’ software highlights
As usual, you will find a multi-faceted range of plug-ins, sounds and samples within the software contents. With the highlight, the synthesizer Waves Element 2, you’ll be prepared for classic analog sounds as well as modern sounds. Another highlight is the powerful mixing and mastering tool T-RackS ONE from IK Multimedia.
The latest hardware gear reviews
Moog Matriarch is the new flagship of the Mother series, offering uncompromising old-school analog sound. The semi-modular analog synthesizer features four oscillators that allow for paraphonic playing and also features a powerful dual filter. Is this enough to be the mother of all synths?
Also in review: Behringer Pro-1, Head-to-head comparison of Akai MPC One and Live mkII, Denon DJ Prime 4, Novation LaunchPad Pro mk3 and many more.
