The DAW piano – completely rethought.
The C. Bechstein Digital Grand has been developed to meet the high expectations of composers & musicians as well as comprehensive requirements in a daily recording practice at a high level.
This applies both to the sonic aspects, as well as to the usability, which remains intuitive at all times. Every control element has been constantly challenged by our product developers and extensively tested in DAW environments, but also in virtuoso live performances with different genres.
Capturing that C. Bechstein Sound
The acoustic role model for the Digital Grand is a carefully selected C. Bechstein D 282 concert grand.
With its ability to highlight and emphasize even the most subtle melody lines through its unparalleled richness of tone colors, the D 282 belongs to the best modern concert grand pianos in the world. Playing a C. Bechstein, you can freely stress a certain voice, underscore a certain melody or accentuate a certain chord, and thus make your interpretation more lively and vivid.
26 velocity layer & great attention to detail
From about 2 terabytes of recorded material, more than 10,000 carefully selected sample-zones were voiced individually! Both, software developers and piano makers worked hand in hand to create a large variety of presets for the Digital Grand to provide an impressive range and a natural sound for each sound setting.
For this purpose, the controller ranges of the innovative GUI were programmed in a way that possible sound modulations always value “the original” – the unique character of a C. Bechstein concert grand piano remaining recognizable at all times.
Innovative string-based sound shaping
The sound of a piano string is influenced by numerous parameters. With the acoustic instrument, the intoneur ensures that certain areas of the grand piano sounds warmer, more percussive, alive or restrained.
In the C. Bechstein Digital Grand, an innovative control interface containing 4 basic parameters ensures a comprehensive adjustment of the sound of each individual (!) Note.
More than 1,200 parameters are manipulated simultaneously by the UI in a playful way. At the same time, every parameter remains intuitive and controllable – and it offers both beginners and experienced sound designers an Eldorado of possibilities!
Premiere in a KONTAKT instrument: M/S sound-design
Experience real Mid-/Side sound-editing for the first time in a KONTAKT instrument! The C. Bechstein Digital Grand offers the sound engineers’ and sound designers’ method of choice for capturing acoustic instruments and makes each channel controllable inside the plugin individually with volume, compression and equalization.
The M/S signal shines in detail making the individual notes tangible through the entire dynamic range – we’re sure you’ll love it!
With version 1.2, C. Bechstein introduces the second major update for the Digital Grand on PCs and Macs. The update of the sample library, developed with great attention to detail, scores with new tonal possibilities and also brings improvements in playing with half-pedal.
Fixed:
•The pedal noise when releasing the hold pedal (CC64) will not be heard until the pedal is released completely.
•An error using the Sustenuto pedal (CC66) has been fixed.
News and optimizations:
•New TOP and SIDE instruments with adjusted sample starting points (SP). With these instruments, the starting points of all samples have been shifted in such a way that an improved touch behavior results during playing. The resulting phase shift also allows tonal alternatives when combining instruments (e.g. with multis).
•10 new MULTIS give an impression of the sound possibilities that result from the combination of different microphone signals. MULTIS marked SP use the new starting point adapted instruments.
•When playing with sympathetic resonances, chords can now also resonate. With the newly added POLY button you can switch between both operating modes. Use monophonic resonances to save resources, or turn the volume to zero to not use the function at all.
•The sound of sympathetic resonances has been improved.
•A Silent Key function has been added: when MIDI notes with a velocity of 1 arrive, only key noises are heard (if they are active under DETAILS).
•Improvements have been made for playing with half-pedal position. The end of notes is now extended depending on the threshold and starts at about 2/3 of the set value.
•The Digital Grand 1.2.0 requires KONTAKT Version 5.8.1 and is compatible with KONTAKT Version 6.0.
