Cubase Orchestrating with Iconica Sketch TUTORiAL
26 July 2024 | 334 MB
If you’re a Cubase user and want to add some orchestral vibes to your tracks or get started with writing music for film/TV, you’ve come to the right place. In this Iconica Sketch video course, veteran Groove3 instructor Gary Hiebner will show you how to do just that using Iconica Sketch, the orchestral library that’s included with Cubase. You’ll not only learn essential orchestration and arranging techniques and concepts, but you’ll also get hands-on tips for adjusting parameters and tweaking settings to make this VI library sound incredibly convincing and authentic. These Iconica Sketch videos are designed for Cubase users new to Iconica Sketch.
Gary starts by demonstrating how to load Iconica Sketch in Halion, where you can select various instruments or ensembles, among other options. He then guides you through the interface, ensuring you understand where everything is located immediately. You’ll also learn how to load up the multi-timbral version of Iconica, which allows you to use different MIDI channels for different instruments on the same track.
Next, Gary demonstrates how to transform a simple piano chord progression into a four-part string arrangement by spreading out the notes to the different string instruments. You’ll also see how to add separate instances of Iconica Sketch if, for example, you want a certain instrument to only play a specific articulation, such as tremolo or staccato. Additionally, learn how to use keyswitches to switch between articulations in real time when performing.
There’s plenty more to come, including tips for building up a motif (mixing sustained and staccato articulations for interest), reiterating the theme (with variations), using expression maps (as an alternative to the keyswtich method), adding modulation and expression for increased realism, adding a brass section to complement the strings, adding woodwind flourishes (with flutes and clarinets, etc.), building a percussion section (with timpani, snare, cymbals, etc.), panning the instruments to set up a virtual stage (mimicking the spacing of a real orchestra for added realism), and more!
Cubase users have an incredible orchestral library built in with Iconica Sketch, and this Iconica Sketch course is the best way to quickly learn how to use it to its fullest potential. Whether you’re just adding strings or brass to a pop song or building an entire cinematic score from the ground up, you can’t go wrong with this course.
