Guitar For Complete Beginners Vol. 1
Join your mentor Jamey Arent as he breaks down everything from simple chords and melodies to rhythm and lead playing.
Do I need prior experience with guitar?
Nope! This class is the best place to start if you’ve never played guitar before. Even if you can already play a little bit, this class is perfect for brushing up on the basics and making sure you’ve got the fundamentals locked down.
What you’ll learn:
With a focus on proper technique and fundamental chords, Jamey breaks down how to establish a solid foundation to build your guitar skills on.
First, we’ll start off nice and easy with a few quick lessons on the best way to sit with, strum, fret, and tune a guitar.
Next up, it’s chord time. G and C major? Piece of cake. Get ready for some sweet melodies after that – you’ll breeze right through them with the C major scale.
Then, it’s time to ramp things up a bit! The following lessons introduce seven new chord shapes and build upon previous lessons to get you playing real chord progressions right away.
Once you have those down, it’s time to cry the blues with three fun blues guitar progressions and an introduction to 7th chords.
Keep an eye out for conceptual interlude lessons throughout, including how to get more out of your chords, how to play percussively, how to separate bass notes from chords, how to practice effectively, and how to use a capo.
Once you make it through all of that, it’s time for your Complete Beginner graduation! We have three original songs from Jamey that we’ll challenge you to learn.

Tips for learning
As you begin to learn guitar, it’s important to remember that you’re asking your brain to embark on a journey! You have to form brand-new neural connections and strengthen them over time so that you can play with ease.
Playing a basic G chord might sound simple in theory, but, when you think about it, it’s a complex process to master. You need to give your brain time to commit each small motion to muscle memory – from placing each finger in the right place on the fretboard to strumming the strings correctly – there’s a lot involved.
Basically, The Tortoise and the Hare said it best: slow and steady wins the race. You could click your way through this class in a few hours, but as a complete beginner, the material should last you months.
Don’t bite off more than you can chew, and give yourself time to get acclimated. Sometimes, all you need is a good night’s sleep for a concept to click in your brain.
