MWTM presents a series debut with the Canadian electro-funk duo Chromeo! Throughout these videos, David Macklovitch and Patrick Gemayel dig up some of their most career-defining productions and tell the stories of their creation. They recount the early days of working with limited resources, mostly in the analog domain with some nascent digital technology. The team describes how the record ‘Bonafied Lovin’ was made using one drum machine, minimal instrumentation, simple vocals, and the first plug-in they ever used… Guess which one! They explain how their workflow and configuration developed over the following years, sharing how they composed and produced the songs ‘Fancy Footwork’ and ‘Jealous’. Further to discussing their own techniques, Chromeo revisit their collaborations with DJ duo ‘Oliver’, mixer Philippe Zdar, and mixer Manny Marroquin. Playing raw and mixed material, they contrast the versions and comment on changes made.
