What’s Updated?
All three Live Gold TonePack banks have been updated to
Cygnus firmware for both the FM3 and Axe-Fx III.
How can I tell updated presets from older firmware versions?
All Cygnus- updated presets names end with a “-c”, short for Cygnus firmware version.
The Axe-Fx III LiveGold presets (which include Output3 and Output 4) will also
say “AX3” in their names, but the Cygnus FM3 LiveGold presets will just show
the preset name and the added “-c.”
Which Fractal firmware version should I use?
Just match the Fractal firmware version with the right LiveGold TonePack firmware version – it’s your choice, since both ARES and Cygnus TonePack firmware versions are included in
your account. Just don’t try to use firmware 15 (Axe-Fx III) or firmware 3.x
(FM3) on the new Cygnus firmware, because it won’t sound right.
Some people report preferring the previous version of LiveGold presets running
of ARES firmware 15.x (or FM3 3.x) as “edgier, more mids, less compressed
feeling” than the updated Cygnus firmware 16.x” — while others disagree. I
still use an Axe-Fx III running firmware 15.x for my band, and it sounds great!
