Reelow Track from Scratch (Ableton)
VIDEO TUTORIAL | 1.6 GB
In this Track from Scratch course, the Barcelona-based DJ and producer, Reelow, shows us how simple it is to craft a captivating tech house track in no time, provided you have the know-how. Reelow harnesses his slightly haphazard approach to production, which seeks out happy accidents in every nook and cranny and molds them into a dance floor ready creation.
Since 2010, the Hungary-born artist has been persistently building his name as one of the most exciting and unique artists in the world of house music. The range and quality of his productions has enabled him to share his brand of tech house with the world, via some of the genre’s most well-respected labels. Solid Grooves, Desolat and Elrow music are just some of the labels that have recognised Reelows expertise, garnering him support from the likes of Loco Dice, Marco Carola, Adam Beyer and more.
In this course, Reelow uses a combination of MIDI, samples and his own recorded audio to concoct a tech house track within an hour and a half. To accomplish this, he employs a range of production techniques that includes chopping, resampling, and synthesis.
A recurring theme of Reelow’s production process is randomization. From the get go, he uses multiple MIDI channels in Ableton Live to create unpredictable and glitchy vocal chops, and a free MIDI randomization plugin to create the bassline of the track. Layering is another frequently used technique in this course, as he stacks up multiple timbres and textures to achieve his own signature style and sound. Reelow’s process isn’t confined to the computer though, as he looks to the hardware section of his studio in order to add interest and further layers to his production.
